Tidal Room

Tidal Room imagines a maritime arrival to Guggenheim Abu Dhabi that does not compete with Frank Gehry’s architecture. The intervention remains low, constructing a public plane between museum and water through steps, platforms, and chambers designed to flood in a controlled way.

Limestone absorbs moisture by capillary action, metal records the marine environment, and salt gathers only where water can physically reach. The tide changes the plaza throughout the day, turning arrival into an instrument for reading the Gulf. Visitors, fishermen, museum staff, and boats give scale to civic infrastructure that continues to operate when the water retreats.

The imagery moves away from the isolated icon: arrival from the sea, overexposed midday light, public occupation, material detail, and temporal change. The result addresses the visual demands of museums, waterfront projects, and international cultural competitions.
